Google Doodle
Pi Day
Objective
Design a Google Doodle based on a chosen topic about a famous person or internationally celebrated day/topic.
Brainstorm
For this project I looked to my interests or well-known people I admire for inspiration: taxidermy, napping, Robin Williams, Pi Day,Hedy Lamarr, frogs, sushi, and Bob Ross.
Process
Explorations of these themes made up the thumbnailing and rough iteration stages, narrowing down to Hedy Lamarr, taxidermy and Pi Day based on strongest concepts + feasible execution plans.
Composition
Pi Day ended up as the strongest solution. An image of a pie on the windowsill was developped, with the mathematical symbol represented on the tea towel.
Final Art
The tone was shifted to a much warmer tone between the comp stage and final, making the final art feel warm and welcoming. It was important to make it feel realistic, so the sheen of the baked fruit on the pie and the many-colored brown of the baked pasty was paid a lot of attention and time.
Onscreen Solution
Overall the style connects the precision of pi with the comforting familiarity of home.
